Here we suggest few simple tips for longer-lasting, more vibrant flowers:-
1.Get the flowers in water at your earliest. Also make sure that the container has
appropriate water depending on the size and quantity of flowers.
2.Make sure to cut the stems diagonally under water, in order to prevent air
bubbles forming inside the stems which further blocks water uptake into the
flowers (a process known as cavitations). Diagonal cut give the flowers a wider
surface area to absorb water.
3.Remove any foliage from the stems that remains under water. Leaves under
water leads to bacterial growth.
4.Recut one to two inches of the flower stems with a sharp knife every 2-3 days
and change the container water.
5.Dropping a coin, an aspirin or sugar in a vase water, serve as flower food
giving nutrients to the flower as well as killing harmful bacteria.
6.If the vase water becomes cloudy, replace it entirely. Also recut the stems by
removing one or two inches as possible.
7.Add water containing flower food daily to bouquets arranged in floral foam.
8.Always keep your arrangement in a cool place away from heat, direct sunlight,
and warm place such as in the sun, on top of the T.V., Stereo etc. These
appliances give off heat resulting the water to evaporate rapidly out of flowers
and vase, causing flowers to dehydrate. Also avoid keeping the arrangement under ceiling fans
directly, from heating or cooling vents.
9.Never keep flowers near fruits and cigarette smoke as they emit ethylene gas
which is harmful to flowers longevity.
